Dear SNACC Members,
We hope you are enjoying the crisp air and changing leaves as we transition into the fall and winter seasons! With our annual meeting just behind us, we are excited to share the latest updates, resources, and opportunities for involvement in this edition of the Trainee Engagement Committee (TEC) Newsletter.
We are thrilled to continue the JNA podcast series, focusing on the latest research and developments in neuroanesthesiology. A special thanks to Dr Shobana Rajan for her leadership! You can find our episodes on the SNACC website, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. This quarter Dr. Rajan interviews the primary author of “Utilizing Artificial Intelligence and Chat Generative Pretrained Transformer to Answer Questions About Clinical Scenarios in Neuroanesthesiology.” Interestingly, the authors of this article used AI offered by ChatGPT to answer questions on clinical scenarios using the guidelines offered by SNACC published previously in the areas of stroke and complex spine surgery.
Our Neuroanesthesia Advanced Classroom has been recently updated to support the educational journey of senior residents during their Neurosurgical Anesthesia rotations. This valuable resource, curated by Dr. Kamilla Esfahani and supported by Dr. Rashid Hussain and the team, can be found under the Education Corner tab on the SNACC website. Additionally, a special thanks to Dr. Matt Whalin for his invaluable assistance in sourcing more focused reviews to enhance the content of the classroom. To help us refine this resource further, we invite you to participate in our feedback survey. Please share your insights via the https://virginia.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1X1qtiD3cJGMzbw and encourage your Program Directors to do the same. Your input is invaluable in making this a resource that truly meets the needs of our trainees.
Our Challenging Cases series continues to provide a platform for discussing complex clinical scenarios in neuroanesthesiology. In the next issue, Dr. Rashmi Vandse will present a case exploring “Perioperative Management of an LVAD-Dependent Patient with Acromegaly Undergoing Pituitary Adenoma Resection.” These cases are a fantastic opportunity to learn from shared experiences and enhance our clinical practice. We are always looking for new case submissions! If you would like to contribute or even take on the editorial role for this series, please reach out. It’s an excellent way to gain editorial experience and contribute to the community.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Alex Papangelou and Casandra Dean are preparing the next EEG Classroom case. If you are interested in contributing to future editions, we still need a volunteer for the Summer 2025 issue. It is a great opportunity to dive into the intricacies of EEG interpretation!
We are looking for a new leader to take over the Resident/Fellow podcast series. Dr Jack Buckley, who has been instrumental in this role, is stepping down. If you are interested in spearheading this initiative, please get in touch! Jack has kindly offered to assist with the transition.
Whether you are looking to lead our Challenging Case series or Resident/Fellow podcast, or contribute to the EEG Classroom, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. We are always eager to hear your ideas and welcome new members to join our projects. Engaging in these projects is a fantastic way to build your professional profile and connect with peers in the Neuroanesthesia community. If you would like to get involved in any of the initiatives mentioned above or have suggestions for future activities, please reach out to us at ssharma4@pennstatehealth.psu.edu or jacquelinemarie.morano@gmail.com
Thank you all for your dedication and contributions to TEC and SNACC. We understand the demands of clinical work, and we are grateful for your commitment to advancing our field. Together, we are creating a vibrant and supportive community for neuroanesthesiology trainees.
Warm regards,
Sonal Sharma MD and Jacqueline Morano MD
