Trainee Engagement Committee Update

Welcome to Summer! Boy does time fly, and before we know it our annual meeting will be upon us.  Be sure to register and join us in Denver, Colorado this September 12th -14th!

Our Neuroanesthesia Advanced Classroom has been recently updated.  Feel free to check it out and share it with your trainees.  This is a mostly free resource to help guide junior and senior residents through their Neurosurgical Anesthesia rotations.  It can be found within the Education Corner tab under Education and Trainees. We continue to thank Dr. Kamilla Esfahani (Director), Dr. Lauren Dunn (Associate Director), and the entire subcommittee for their relentless effort and recent updates.  In addition, we would like to congratulate Dr. Rashid Hussain on his new role as Associate Director of the Neuroanesthesia Classroom and congratulate Dr. Dunn on her new role as Education Committee Chair!

We continue to work on our quarterly projects and produce new educational podcasts.

The JNA Podcast, focuses on featured free articles in the JNA.  Dr. Sonal Sharma interviewed Dr. Kan Ma on his recent publication in JNA this May, “Regional Anesthesia Techniques in Modern Neuroanesthesia Practice: A Narrative Review of the Clinical Evidence.” This episode offers an insightful conversation focusing on Dr Ma’s expertise and experiences with regional anesthesia techniques in Neuroanesthesia. The discussion delves into various aspects of this field, providing listeners with a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. To listen to the full episode, you can visit the SoundCloud link.

As always, these podcasts can also be found not just on our website but on Spotify and Apple podcasts, just search “SNACC”.

Our Challenging Case team continues to produce quarterly publications in the SNACC newsletter.  If you have not already read our case from this triannual newsletter, take a look.  It is a complication that made those of us who have encountered it or similar scenarios more experienced.  Dr. Lakshmi N Kurnutala M.D., M.Sc. tells of a difficult case of a dural spinal AVM and intra-procedural loss of neuromonitoring.  It is always good practice to review difficult cases encountered by others and learn from them.  Thank you Dr. Kurnutala!

Finally, we continue to publish EEG signature cases.  Be on the lookout for Drs. Paul Garcia, Cassandra Dean and Alex Papangelou’s review of EEG changes related to nociception.  Their previous EEG cases have been focused on changes related to anesthetics, they’re now changing the focus to other occurrences during surgery.  Enjoy this very interesting review on what you too can observe in your own operating rooms.

Hope to see you all in Denver this September and as always, reach out to us with any inquiries!
