Education Committee Update

It is a privilege for me to write my first update as Education Committee Chair. I wanted to personally thank Dr. Hemmer for her leadership of the Committee since 2019, for her mentorship and support of the committee. The Education Committee continues to be very active and consists of approximately 50 faculty neuroanesthesiologists who generously donate their time and expertise to our committee endeavors. We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new members who joined the committee this year. We are looking forward to meeting in person at the Annual Meeting in September.

Thank you to all our contributors worldwide for their content updates. The Bibliography, led by Drs. Arun George and Carine Zeeni, underwent an extensive update last year (the first time since the pandemic onset!). The Bibliography will continue to be updated biennially. We are seeking expert contributors to help with updates in several content areas. Please reach out to Drs. George and Zeeni if you are interested in contributing.

Thank you to the PBLD group for facilitating the selection of four live PBLDs that will be presented at this year’s Annual Meeting and thanks especially to our presenters for submitting the following excellent topics: Drs. Jamie Uejima and Jacqueline Morano (Perioperative management of neurologic stimulators during nonneurologic surgery), Dr. Shilpa Rao (Intraoperative loss of neuromonitoring signals: troubleshooting tips), Dr. Ashish Bindra (Management of traumatic brain injury), and Dr. Maya Mikami (Challenging awake craniotomy). We look forward to your presentations!

Finally, praise and gratitude to the Neuroanesthesia Quiz Group (Drs. Tumul Chowdhury-group leader, Adele Budiansky, Swati Chhabra, Surya Dube, Sonal Sharma, and Hui Yang) for their highly educational quizzes, including their most recent quiz on “Diseases of Central and Autonomic Nervous System”.

I would like to thank all of our members who have contributed to our educational content in other areas, including Interactive Neuromonitoring Cases, Simulation Scenarios, Article of the Month, Clinical Audio Corner and Cognitive Aids. We look forward to creating new content together and welcome any ideas for new projects! If you are interested in becoming involved in the Education Committee or joining any of these groups, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Annual Meeting in September!
