In a convergence of significant milestones, the Indian Society of Neuroanaesthesiology and Critical Care (ISNACC) celebrated its Silver Jubilee Conference from 16 – 18 February 2024, at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. Organized by the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, this momentous event coincided with the Platinum Jubilee year of AFMC.
The Silver Jubilee Conference marked a significant milestone in the society’s journey, highlighting its commitment to innovation, collaboration and the continuous pursuit of knowledge.
ISNACC 2024 was inaugurated by Lt Gen Narendra Kotwal, AVSM, SM, VSM Dir and Commandant AFMC and Maj Gen D Vivekanand, SM Dean and Dy Commandant AFMC. A special cover symbolizing the silver jubilee conference of ISNACC was also released in the presence Mr Ramchandra Jayabhaye, Postmaster general, Pune region. The conference featured a diverse range of workshops and hands-on training sessions, covering critical topics that are at the forefront of neuroanaesthesia and critical care. Participants engaged in interactive sessions focusing on simulation for neuro-emergencies, neuromodulation and chronic pain, paediatric airway management, advanced haemodynamic monitoring, stroke, and smart research practices. A noteworthy component of the conference was a special Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on the Management of a Brain-Dead Patient for Organ Donations – with a broader aim of enhancing physicians’ comprehension regarding the altruistic practice of organ donation.
The organising committee spearheaded by Maj Gen Subrato Sen, SM (Organising Chairman), Brig Rahul Yadav (Organising Secretary), Col Shamik Paul (Organising Co- Secretary) and team strived hard to ensure an academic extravaganza for the distinguished delegates. The conference hosted approximately 500 delegates, bringing together a diverse group of healthcare professionals, researchers and experts in Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical care. Esteemed national and international faculty presented talks on the latest advances in neurosciences, contributing to an exhaustive scientific program that covers a wide array of subjects. Feedback received from the conference delegates stated that these sessions were intellectually stimulating, and provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in the field.
A unique heritage walk was organised by the AFMC Alumni Association which showcased the historical importance of the AFMC campus. This was conducted by Air Cmde Anurakshat Gupta.
In a laudable move towards environmental responsibility, the conference organizers undertook a noble plantation drive to commemorate the Silver Jubilee. This initiative underscored a commitment to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship, aligning with the broader goals of responsible citizenship.
The Academy of Neuroanaesthesia and Neuro Critical Care (ANANC) held its first Convocation Ceremony on February 18, 2024, at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, during which the academy’s logo also was unveiled. The ceremony was graced by :
Dr. HK Sale, Chief Guest along with Dr. Virendra Jain, President of ANANC, Dr. Umamaheshwara Rao, Dean of ANANC,Dr. Girija Prasad Rath, Registrar of ANANC along with other members of the governing council of ISNACC . During the ceremony, the following honorary awards were distributed:
- Prof. HH Dash Lifetime Achievement Award
- Distinguished Professional Service Award: Dr. HK Venkatesh
- Distinguished Teacher Award: Prof. Nidhi Panda
- President’s Appreciation Awards: Dr. Ponaiah Vanamoorthy and Dr. Kiran Jangra
- Best JNACC Reviewer Award: Dr. Charu Mahajan, Dr. Hemangi Karnik, Dr. Kiran Jangra, Dr. Ramamani Mariappan, and Dr. Sriganesh Kamath
Honorary fellowships in neuroanaesthesia and neuro critical care were conferred on 15 distinguished teachers. Fellowships in Neuroanaesthesiology was awarded to 10 individuals and Fellowship in Neurocritical care were awarded to 7 individuals.
ISNACC 2024 was a great amalgamation of academics and enjoyment. There were two cultural events organised in the famous Dhanvantari Auditorium- an Odissi Dance organized by the famous Rudrakshya Foundation and a program by famous storyteller Mr Neelesh Misra. Both performances were mesmerizing and provided goosebumps moments too. Delegates also enjoyed the exquisite culinary spread infused with the richness of Maratha cuisine and the elegance of the hospitality of the Armed Forces during the banquets organized on 16th and 17th nights.
All the residents and faculty of the Department of Ananesthesiology and Critical Care headed by Brig Rahul Yadav tried their best to organize the Silver Jubilee edition of ISNACC in the most exquisite way possible. The entire team of ISNACC 2024 convey their best wishes to the organizers of ISNACC 2025 scheduled to be held between 23 and 26 January at Kovalam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala in the southern part of India.
