Serving the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC), which nurtured me as a budding neuroanesthesiologist, is both a privilege and an honor. As I take on this role, I recall my first connection with SNACC during the annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, in 2008. After a brief hiatus, I rejoined as a regular member in 2011. Though I work in an Asian country, the fact that SNACC members trusted me and elected me as the Society’s leader speaks volumes about our diversity and inclusivity. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and eager to further SNACC’s objectives.
It has been seven years since we began organizing our highly successful stand-alone SNACC meetings. This year’s annual event in Atlanta, Georgia, was a huge success, with 246 participants from across the world, including 66 students, residents, and fellows. The program was expertly curated by Marie Angele Theard and featured cutting-edge science, clinical settings, and controversy. International speakers and experts from related fields provided fresh insights and sparked lively interactions. The Scientific Affairs Committee Chair, Susana Vacas, coordinated two excellent abstract sessions. We extend our sincere gratitude to all speakers, participants, and contributors who made the meeting a success. A special thanks to everyone who supported the fundraiser and contributed to both SNACC and the William Young Research Fund, helping to strengthen our mission. The IMI Association Executives team also deserves great praise for their tireless behind-the-scenes efforts that ensured everything ran smoothly.
Sustaining our vision and objectives requires sound financial health. As industry sponsorships decline in a challenging healthcare landscape, we will continue to explore new revenue streams and collaborations.
At the Annual Meeting, new members were added to the SNACC leadership team. Congratulations to our newly elected Secretary-Treasurer, Shobana Rajan; ICPNT Chair, Val Luoma; and new Board of Directors members, Sonal Sharma and Dinesh Pal. We are fortunate to have such dedicated professionals who generously donate their time and expertise to our committees, which serve as the foundation of our society. The newly appointed committee chairs — Nadia Lunardi (Research), Ben Heller (Endorsed Documents), Benish Fatima (Communications), and Jibin Mathew (Membership) — will definitely bring fresh perspectives and ideas.
The field of neuroanesthesiology and perioperative neuroscience has evolved dramatically over the past few decades. We now stand at the intersection where ‘neuroscience, technology, and perioperative medicine’ converge to redefine how we understand and care for the injured or vulnerable brain. In this dynamic landscape, SNACC remains a unifying force that fosters collaboration, promotes education, and nurtures the next generation of neuro-clinicians.
My vision for SNACC is to further strengthen its identity as a ‘global academic community in perioperative neuroscience’, one that connects minds, cultures, and disciplines. To achieve this, we will focus on three key pillars:
Education: Expanding educational access through webinars, workshops, and digital platforms, thereby creating opportunities for trainees and early-career professionals worldwide. Strengthening ICPNT, SNACC’s educational and accreditation arm, will be central to this goal.
Research: Supporting multicenter and translational studies through collaboration with research groups and institutions, bringing scientific discoveries closer to clinical practice.
Global Engagement: Deepening our partnerships with international societies and regional organizations to ensure SNACC remains inclusive and representative of the global community. Currently, we work with six affiliated societies and two international partners, and we aim to broaden this network further.
Enhancing SNACC’s visibility is another priority. Our social media team continues to build a strong presence — a vital step in today’s connected world. I encourage all members to join the conversation by following @SNACCNeuro, @snaccprez, @icpnt, and @JNeurosurgAnes on X, and to follow our pages on Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
As I look ahead, I am inspired by the passion and dedication of our members and the vibrant SNACC BOD. The year ahead promises to be exciting, and I look forward to seeing you all at the 2026 Annual Meeting in the beautiful ‘City of Oaks’, Raleigh, North Carolina.
