Dear Colleagues,
It is a privilege to serve as Chair of the Membership Committee for SNACC. I would like to begin by sincerely thanking Dr. Fenghua Li for his steady leadership and dedication to strengthening our membership community. His efforts have created a strong framework upon which we can continue to build.
Over the past several months, the Committee has taken a close look at our membership data to better understand where we stand and where we need to focus. Recent reports show steady renewal activity and a meaningful rise in trainee membership. At the same time, Category A membership has declined over the past two years, highlighting the need for intentional re-engagement and retention strategies. In addition, several hundred members have lapsed within the past five years, representing a substantial opportunity to reconnect with colleagues who have previously demonstrated interest in SNACC.
Our approach moving forward is centered on thoughtful, data-informed action. One major area of emphasis is the transition period between fellowship and early faculty practice. We want to better understand what influences graduating fellows to join and remain active in SNACC, and we plan to seek direct input from this group. Strengthening that transition is essential to building long-term membership stability.
At the same time, we recognize the tremendous value of our senior and retired members. Their experience in clinical practice, research, education, and society leadership represents an extraordinary resource. We are exploring ways to strengthen mentorship pathways that connect generations within SNACC, preserve institutional knowledge, and foster leadership development. Thoughtful engagement of senior members can provide continuity while empowering the next generation of leaders.
Finally, increasing participation across all membership categories remains a priority. Membership is more than enrollment; it is active involvement in the life of the society. We are implementing more focused renewal outreach, developing a structured approach to reconnect with recently lapsed members, and expanding communication through training programs and departmental contacts. Our goal is to make engagement accessible and meaningful at every career stage.
Thank you for your continued engagement and support. I look forward to working together in the year ahead.
Warm regards,
Jibin Mathew, MD
