The International Council for Perioperative Neuroscience Training (ICPNT) Masterclass continued its tradition of hosting a full day education program featuring structured, flexible, and interactive learning in perioperative neuroscience.
This year’s morning sessions provided a track-based modular structure, enabling participants to tailor their learning experience by choosing between two primary tracks:
- Track A — “The Mysteries of Research and Academic Publishing Revealed’
Explored the principles of research methodology, study design, and critical appraisal.
- Track B — “Neuroanesthesia Emergency and Crisis Management”
Concentrated on perioperative decision-making in emergency neurosurgical scenarios and critical care challenges, emphasizing structured approaches to complex clinical situations.
The next session, “EEG Monitoring for Anesthesiologists”, addressed core EEG principles, processed EEG indices, and practical clinical integration in the operating room. Alternatively, participants could also choose the alternative in the Brain Ultrasound, a stand-alone workshop offering hands-on training in cranial ultrasound techniques, Doppler assessment, and ICP estimation methods.
Afternoon sessions featured skill-based workshops and shared sessions to provide cross-learning in two key areas of neuroanesthesia monitoring techniques:
- Perioperative POCUS –included point-of-care ultrasound applications in neuroanesthesia, airway, and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Perioperative Neuromonitoring –covered transcranial doppler, cerebral oximetry and EVD management.
The day concluded with ICPNT Quiz Challenge, a lively and engaging session led by the ICPNT Exam and Certification Committees. This event provided a fun, collaborative way to reinforce key concepts learned throughout the day.
Highlights from this year’s Masterclass feedback included:
- High satisfaction with the modular track structure and faculty engagement
- Appreciation for hands-on workshops and real-time discussions
- Recognition of valuable networking opportunities and inter-program collaboration
As the ICPNT Master Class continues to be a flagship educational event at the annual SNACC meeting, we extend our sincere thanks to the outstanding Masterclass faculty and acknowledge the ongoing support provided to ICPNT fellows through the SNACC Education Grant.
Please find below the reflections from ICPNT program fellows:
I attended Track A of the ICPNT Masterclass and found it extremely valuable. The sessions were well-organized, with a great balance between clinical and academic topics. I especially appreciated the practical components on EEG monitoring and POCUS, which provided useful insights I can apply in my daily practice. The final quiz was a fun and engaging way to wrap up the day, reinforcing key concepts in a friendly atmosphere.

An interactive end-of-day quiz reinforced learning, and special thanks goes to the ICPNT team for their excellent organization. Suggestions: Future sessions could allow all participants to equally experience topics covered in track A and track B for a wholesome experience at the end.
–Rubina Sharma, MD. Cleveland Clinic foundation.
It was a stimulating mix between learning advanced techniques, such as brain ultrasound across its full clinical spectrum, and discussing case-specific challenges, including the management of ruptured aneurysms and the influences and limitations encountered during intraoperative neuromonitoring. The interactive format fostered collaboration and knowledge exchange among trainees and faculty from all over the world, allowing me to experience global expertise in neuroanesthesia education and practice.
–Igor Abramovich, MD, PhD. University of California, San Francisco
The masterclass was a really incredible experience where I (and my co-fellows from Columbia) got hands-on experience with ultrasound, EVDs, TCDs, and more. The lecturers were knowledgeable, the other participants were friendly, and it was just a great atmosphere overall. My co-fellows and I all agreed it was the highlight of the SNACC weekend! We can’t wait for the masterclass next year .
–Julie Hwang, MD, PhD, Columbia University
The huge variety of topics covered, the detail provided by the expert panels and fascinating discussions left a buzz in the air and anticipation for the weekend ahead. Thank you to all panel members who led such informative sessions.
