Dear SNACC Members,
It has been an exciting and productive period for our Society as we continue to strengthen SNACC’s role as a global leader in neuroanesthesia, neurocritical care, and perioperative neuroscience. Our commitment to excellence in education, research, collaboration, and patient care remains stronger than ever. I extend my sincere gratitude to all our members, volunteers, committee chairs, and the Board of Directors for their dedication and unwavering support. Your enthusiasm and expertise continue to drive the Society forward.
Following the success of our Virtual Clinical Symposium, which broadened access to high-quality education globally, our efforts are focused on the upcoming 54th SNACC Annual Meeting. Scheduled for September 10–12, 2026, in Raleigh, North Carolina, the meeting is led by Dr. Tumul Chowdhury, Vice President for Education and Scientific Affairs, alongside the Scientific Program Committee. The program bridges foundational neuroscience with translational research and clinical practice. The meeting opens with specialized educational sessions under the auspices of the International Council on Perioperative Neuroscience Training (ICPNT), featuring an EEG Masterclass and a Neuroanesthesia Crisis Management Workshop. These are complemented by Problem-Based Learning Discussions (PBLDs) designed to explore complex, real-world perioperative management challenges.
The scientific program features prominent keynote addresses reflecting modern advances in the field. James Markert, MD, will present the Keynote Lecture on “Newer advances in neuro-oncological management – oncolytic virotherapy,” examining novel therapeutic models in neuro-oncology. Odette Harris, MD, MPH, will deliver the WINNER Lecture on “Precision approaches to traumatic brain injury,” highlighting individualized management strategies for neurotrauma. The core scientific sessions span basic, translational, and clinical domains. Basic neuroscience panels will examine neuroinflammation, mechanisms of anesthetic emergence, and perioperative brain health. Saturday’s Neuroscience Symposium will further address biomarkers of neurovascular vulnerability, precision EEG monitoring, and perioperative genomics. Clinical sessions will re-evaluate established management paradigms. Dedicated panels will address evidence-based pharmacologic strategies, techniques for intraoperative brain relaxation, and individualized hemodynamics, specifically blood pressure optimization.
SNACC remains committed to reducing global disparities in perioperative care. The Global Neuroanesthesia Clinical Forum and the Regional Neuroscience Symposium will focus on practice variability, clinical outcomes, and capacity building in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). In addition to scientific and clinical priorities, workforce sustainability is a core organizational focus. In collaboration with the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), this year’s program introduces a dedicated session on clinician burnout and occupational well-being. The meeting will also showcase original research through platform abstract sessions and the Best of Science presentations, complemented by formal networking events including the Opening and President’s Receptions.
SNACC also continues to expand collaborations with national and international societies, fostering the exchange of knowledge and promoting excellence in perioperative neuroscience worldwide. As a part of academic collaboration and outreach, virtual Global Grand Rounds, an open-access platform will soon be launched offering neuroanesthesia education to an international audience. SNACC recently concluded its joint webinar with the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA), titled “Advancing Neuroanaesthesia and Neurocritical Care Across the Patient Pathway,” featuring contributions from Drs. Paul Garcia and Deepak Sharma, on July 22. The leadership and expert faculty of SNACC continue to represent the Society at international neuroanesthesia symposia, fostering knowledge exchange across regions. As we move forward, I encourage every member to actively participate whether through education, research, committee service, mentorship, or advocacy. Our collective efforts will shape the future of neuroanesthesia and neurocritical care.
Thank you for your continued commitment to SNACC. I look forward to meeting many of you in Raleigh and to another year of learning and collaboration.
With warm regards,
Girija P. Rath, MD, DM
President, Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC)
