ICPNT Update

“Reaccreditation is not just a checkpoint—it’s a reaffirmation of our commitment to excellence. It ensures that ICPNT programs continue to deliver world-class neuroanesthesia training while evolving to meet the needs of our future leaders.”

— ICPNT Leadership Team

The International Council for Perioperative Neuroscience Training (ICPNT) continues to grow with 40 accredited Neuroanesthesiology fellowship programs worldwide, reflecting the increasing recognition of the specialty and the importance of structured subspecialty training. As we expand, maintaining the quality and rigor of these programs remains central to our mission.

This fall, ICPNT will begin the reaccreditation process for several of our member programs. While the reaccreditation process is more streamlined than initial accreditation, it is no less rigorous. It ensures that programs remain aligned with ICPNT’s evolving educational standards, meet the needs of their trainees, and continue to provide high-quality training in perioperative neuroscience.

To support this effort, a reaccreditation fee of $700 will be introduced. This fee reflects only the costs associated with coordination, documentation review, and committee processes. ICPNT remains committed to keeping costs low while delivering high value through global benchmarking, community-building, and shared educational resources.

“We see reaccreditation not as a hurdle, but as an opportunity for programs to reflect, refine, and reaffirm their commitment to excellence in training.” — ICPNT Leadership Team

A quote by one of our program directors, Jamie Uejima, Northwestern University, “ICPNT has been a valuable resource for our fellowship program. Not only has it ensured that our program remains at the forefront of Neuroanesthesia training, but also it connects us with other programs making us part of an international community”.

A Quote by one of our graduating ICPNT fellows, Bryan Benson, Cleveland Clinic, “Training in an ICPNT-accredited program has connected me with mentors and peers across the world. This global perspective has opened my mind to new management approaches and ways of thinking. The fellowship has given me the time and space to think deeply about problems in perioperative neuroscience in ways that will change my practice and prepare me for a future in academic neuroanesthesia.

As the field continues to mature, ICPNT-accredited programs are well-positioned to lead innovation, education, and collaboration across the global neuroanesthesia community.

We continue to welcome more programs to join our community to advance the specialty together.
