Andrew E. Hudson, MD, PhD

Andrew E. Hudson, MD, PhD is the 2017 William L. Young Neuroscience Research Award Winner.  His proposal title is “Burst Suppression in the Cortical Microcircuit.”  Dr. Hudson received his MD from Weill Medical College of Cornell University in 2008, served residency at New York Presbyterian, then moved to UCLA in 2012 as an Assistant Professor. He lists six publications, four as first author, was awarded a FAER grant, and currently has a KO8 award. The present proposal builds on earlier work performed in the FAER and KO8 projects. This proposal will offer new insights into local intracortical processing, and the breakdown of such communication with anesthetics, while helping to explain how different anesthetics can have specific signatures during bursts.

Dr. Mengyuan Peng is the recipient of the Michenfelder Award at SNACC’s 45th Annual Meeting due to her research work on “Upregulation of GLT-1 in Astrocytes via PI3K/AKt Pathway by Dexmeditomidine.“ She received her MD from Fudan University, Shanghai, China in June 2017 and is currently an anesthesia resident at the Department of Anesthesiology at Zhongshan Hospital affiliated with Fudan University. Dr. Peng’s research provided us evidence of dexmeditomidine’s neuroprotection and its mechanism in animal models. She was mentored by Dr. Jing Cang and Dr. Fang Fang, faculty members at Fudan University.
