SNACC 45th ANNUAL MEETING
Annual William L. Young Fundraiser Dinner in Boston
Deepak Sharma, MBBS, MD; Jeffrey J. Pasternak, MD
As you all know, following the untimely death of Dr. William L. Young in 2013, SNACC decided to establish an eponymous research award to honor his career and life, particularly his outstanding accomplishments as a clinical and basic-research neuroscientist. Dr. Young was a longstanding SNACC member, President of the Society from 1996-1997 and a colleague and friend of many of us. He was viewed as one of the most productive researchers, influential mentors and memorable personalities in the history of neuroanesthesiology. SNACC initiated the William L. Young Fund by making a Board-designated gift of $50,000 in the year 2014. With subsequent donations, including 100% participation from SNACC’s Board of Directors, the fund has grown to over $100,000 including investment returns. The award aims to support young investigators in neuroanesthesiology and perioperative neuroscience. Dr. Andrew Hudson MD, PhD, from David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles received the award this year.

In order to enhance our efforts in continuing to raise funds to further support this award, SNACC has started hosting an Annual William L. Young Fundraiser Dinner around our Annual Meeting. The fundraiser this year was held at the Strega Waterfront Restaurant, Boston on Friday, October 20 after the SNACC meeting. The event was a huge success! It was attended by about 50 SNACC members and their friends and families. It was wonderful to see everyone having a great time after a very successful SNACC meeting! One could see neuroanesthesiologists and neuroscientists with families and friends in a fun and relaxed setting. It was heartening to see the tremendous support from so many SNACC members for this effort. We were able to raise about $2,500 from the event in addition to the $4,000 raised from multiple individual contributions during the Annual Meeting. These contributions will be added to the Bill Young Fund. The event has now become a regular “afterparty” to follow the SNACC meeting! We are thankful to everyone for their generous support and we look forward to the fundraiser dinner next year in San Francisco and thank you!
