Dear SNACC Members;
Thank you very much for your generous donation to the William L. Young Research Award established by SNACC to honor Dr. Young and his contributions to our field. We thank you for your support and wanted to give you an update on the fund.
In 2014, SNACC initiated the William L. Young Fund by making a Board designated gift of $50,000. In addition, there were two individual donations totaling $2,600 that same year. In 2015, there were 26 contributions totaling $22,425. The number of donors increased in 2016 to 31 and then to 46 (so far) in 2017. The average size of the donations is $419 over all four years. The SNACC Board of Directors continues to believe in the importance of the fund and has a 100% participation rate by the Board members. The current balance of the Fund is $97,898, including investment returns. These funds are professionally managed in a diversified, conservative portfolio managed by Independence Advisors, SNACC’s investment professionals.
Dr. Miles Berger from Duke University was the first recipient of the William L. Young Neuroscience Research Award in 2016. He received an award of $5,000 to support his project titled: The Role of MCP1 and Monocyte Activation with the Central Nervous System in Human Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction, Delirium, and Brain Network Activity Changes. Applications have been submitted from young investigators for the award again this year.
We thank you again for your past contributions and hope that you will continue to support this research funding for young investigators.
