Among the many detrimental effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the scientific community, the loss of opportunities for exchanging ideas with fellow neuroscientists is one that we can actively address. The desire to network and brainstorm with old and new colleagues in a casual setting was clearly expressed at the Research Round Table during the SNACC Annual Meeting. The Research Committee responded and launched the Coffee and Research series in January 2021. Coffee and Research is an hour-long Zoom-based meeting that highlights SNACC scientists and their current work, providing ample space for informal discussion and brainstorming. We expect the series to strengthen the connection between SNACC neuroscientists and make new introductions, spark new friendships, and inspire new projects and collaborations. Drs. Ken Solt and Donald Penning kicked off the series in January, discussing their current projects "Neural Circuits Underlying Anesthetic-Induced Unconsciousness" and "Neuron-Glia Crosstalk Plays a Role in the Neurotoxic Effects of Ketamine via Extracellular Vesicles". There was an excellent discussion of many experimental questions in a collaborative and relaxed atmosphere.
SNACC Coffee and Research meetings will occur every other month, with the most recent one held on March 19, 2021. Drs. Dinesh Pal and Nicolai Goettel discussed their work on "Neural Regulation of Arousal States" and "Clinical Research in Perioperative
Neurocognitive Disorders", respectively. Coffee and Research meetings are open to all but do require registration. SNACC members can view recordings of previous meetings in the “Coffee and Research” tab in their membership profile after logging into the SNACC website.
The Research Committee invites all scientists to join us for a Coffee and Research discussion and present their work at any upcoming events. Be on the lookout for more information on the next Coffee and Research to be held on Friday, May 21, 2021.
Mark Your Calendar for more SNACC Science and Networking - Attend the 4th Annual SNACC Neuroscience Symposium on June 5, 2021
The annual SNACC Neuroscience Symposium “Perioperative Neuroscience” returns in 2021. The fully virtual symposium will take place on June 5. This event brings together neuroscience researchers to share and discuss ongoing studies and recent findings related to neuroscience for anesthesiology and critical care. Mark your calendars for this exciting opportunity to discuss new data, learn from colleagues, and forge new collaborations.
