I have read that anesthetics may cause neurotoxic harm to the developing brain, and I am curious to know if there have been any updates on this topic over the past year or so. Thank you!

Dr. Phillip Vlisides, 12/1/2024: Thank you for this excellent question. Indeed, there has been growing concern that routinely used anesthetics may cause harm to the developing brain, based largely from laboratory research.
