Women in Neuroanesthesiology and Neuroscience Education and Research (WINNER) Abstract Award
The Women in Neuroanesthesiology and Neuroscience Education and Research (WINNER) Abstract Award is given to the top female first-time scientific abstract presenter at the SNACC meeting. This award recognizes excellence in research and is part of SNACC’s strategy to address gender disparities in academic neuroanesthesia. The recipient of this award will be recognized at the SNACC Annual Meeting, receive a complementary one-year SNACC membership, receive complementary registration at the next SNACC meeting, and be provided with mentorship opportunities within SNACC. This award will be given to the highest-scoring abstract meeting the criteria below:
- Female abstract presenter at the SNACC Annual Meeting.
- The recipient must present their abstract at the SNACC annual meeting to receive their award and certificate.
- SNACC Member in good standing.
- Rank of Associate Professor or above are not eligible.
Best of Meeting Award – Basic Science Category
The purpose of this is to highlight the highest-scoring abstract in the Basic Science Category, meeting the criteria below:
- Abstract in Basic Science Category.
- Candidate must be the presenting author.
- The recipient must present their abstract at the SNACC annual meeting to receive their award.
- SNACC Member in good standing.
- Rank of Associate Professor or above are not eligible.
Best of Meeting Award – Clinical/Translational Science Category
The purpose of this award is to highlight the highest-scoring abstract in the Clinical/Translational Science Category, meeting the criteria below:
- Abstract in Clinical/Translational Science Category.
- Candidate must be the presenting author.
- The recipient must present their abstract at the SNACC annual meeting to receive their award.
- SNACC Member in good standing.
- Rank of Associate Professor or above are not eligible.
Anesthesia Patient Safety Award
The purpose of this award is to highlight the best scoring abstract related to patient safety in neuroanesthesia and critical care. The recipient of this award will be recognized at the SNACC Annual Meeting with a Plaque and a $250 award. The award will be given to the highest-scoring abstract, meeting the criteria below:
- Abstract related to patient safety.
- Candidates should be either a medical student, resident, graduate student, clinical fellow, post-doctoral fellow or faculty within the first 5 years of their appointment.
- Candidate must be the presenting author.
- The recipient must present their abstract at the SNACC annual meeting to receive their award.
- SNACC Member in good standing.
Joint Society Awards
The purpose of the Joint Society Awards is to highlight the work of a medical student, graduate student, resident, fellow or junior faculty each year that is part of the mission of one of the following affiliated societies:
- Indian Society of Neuroanesthesiology and Critical Care (ISNACC)
- Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society (CAS)
- Neuroanesthesia and Critical Care Society – Great Britain and Ireland (NACCS)
- Neuroanaesthesia Special interest Group, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA)
- Japanese Society of Anesthesiologists (JSA)
The recipient of this award will be recognized at the SNACC Annual Meeting with presentation of a certificate for receiving highest scores by abstract graders. To qualify for this ward:
- Candidates should be either a medical student, resident, graduate student, clinical fellow, post-doctoral fellow or faculty within the first 5 years of their appointment.
- Candidate must be the presenting author.
- The recipient must present their abstract at the SNACC annual meeting to receive their award.
- SNACC Member in addition of member of the respective affiliated society (in good standing).

Travel and Joint Travel Awards
The purpose of the Travel Awards is to facilitate attendance to a SNACC Annual Meeting by a trainee by offsetting cost, allowing the recipient the opportunity to present a poster. These awards are given to medical students, graduate students, residents, or fellows each year for receiving highest scores by abstract graders. The award consists of a financial award and presentation of a certificate during the annual meeting. To qualify, candidates should be either a medical student, resident, graduate student, clinical fellow or post-doctoral fellow at the time of the annual meeting and must be the presenting author of an abstract accepted for presentation at the SNACC annual meeting. The recipient must attend the SNACC annual meeting to receive their award and certificate.
