It is with great pride and excitement that we celebrate a major academic milestone—the 100th edition of the SNACC Neuroanesthesia Quiz!
Neuroanesthesia, an essential subspecialty of anesthesiology, demands a profound understanding of both anesthesia principles and neurological considerations, making continuous learning a critical component for practitioners in this field. The quizzes serve not only as a measure of knowledge but also as a catalyst for ongoing education among those dedicated to improving patient outcomes.
Launched as an academic engagement initiative by SNACC, the quiz has, over the years, grown into a unique educational cornerstone in the field of neuroanesthesia and neurocritical care. Released every two months, each edition features a carefully crafted clinical vignette, followed by multiple-choice options and a detailed explanation derived from current evidence and best practices.
The SNACC Neuroanesthesia Quiz traces its roots back to 2015, when Dr Shobana Rajan and Dr Shaheen Shaikh—visionary educators and active members of SNACC—conceptualized and launched the first edition. Their pioneering effort laid the foundation for what has become a long-standing and impactful educational tradition. It has evolved into a globally accessed, peer-reviewed learning tool. From residents to senior consultants, professionals across training levels eagerly engage with each quiz—to test their knowledge, revisit key concepts, and stay aligned with evolving clinical practice.
Topics have spanned the full spectrum of neuroanesthesia and neurocritical care: cerebral autoregulation, spinal cord ischemia, ICP waveform interpretation, neurophysiologic monitoring, air embolism management, neurotoxicity of anesthetics, and beyond. What unites them is the consistent effort to go beyond rote answers—focusing instead on “why” and “how”, enhancing both knowledge and clinical reasoning.
The SNACC Quiz Team, currently comprising six educators from diverse training backgrounds and institutions, collaborates closely on every edition. From topic selection and evidence review to graphical formatting and final edit, the team works across time zones and schedules, unified by their shared vision of accessible academic excellence. Each quiz is meticulously designed to challenge the participants, ensuring that they stay current with the latest advancements in techniques, pharmacology, and technological innovations in neuroanesthesia.
The value of the quiz is perhaps best reflected in the feedback it receives from the SNACC community. The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive, underscoring the value of these quizzes as a resource for self-assessment and professional development. Many participants have reported that engaging in quizzes has reinforced their existing passion for the subspecialty.
As we commemorate this 100th-edition milestone, we look to the future with renewed enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to advancing knowledge in this vital field.
